Internet Explorer Sunset For Versions 8, 9, and 10¶
On January 12th, 2016, Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer versions 8, 9, and 10, which means only their Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge browsers will receive security updates. We keep a close eye on trends in browser usage across our customer base, and migration to Internet Explorer 11 has proceeded rapidly. In order to provide the best possible experience for PolicyStat users, it’s important that we focus our engineering efforts on the modern, secure browsers that are used by a large majority of our customers.
With that in mind, we have developed a plan to slowly phase out support for these older versions of Internet Explorer. This ensures we can dedicate more time and energy towards improving PolicyStat for now and for the future, which means improving support for smart phones (iPhone, Android, etc.) and tablets (iPads, Kindle Fires, etc.) along the way.
How this affects you¶
As we drop official support for the Internet Explorer versions no longer supported by Microsoft, nearly everything will continue to function in the unsupported browser versions (we won’t be intentionally breaking features). Dropped support means that we will no longer design and test compatibility with those old versions, which means new tweaks, updates, and enhancements may or may not function as expected in those older browsers.
Starting in January, if you’re a site administrator accessing PolicyStat via a version of Internet Explorer whose support is ending. you’ll see an in-product announcement notifying you of our plan to end official support.
- Effective February 1st, 2016, pages used exclusively by site administrators will no longer officially support IE8, IE9, and IE10.
- Effective March 1st, 2016, only pages that are used by Guest users (searching for, viewing, and printing documents) will support IE8, IE9, and IE10.
- Effective April 1, 2016, we will match Microsoft’s policy of supporting only the most current version of Internet Explorer for each operating system. Initially, this means that Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge will be officially supported.
If you have any questions about this plan, please reach out to our support team via email@example.com or 1.317.644.1296 ext. 2. We’re always very grateful for your feedback.
Note: Our list of currently-supported browsers is available on our support website.
Our goal is to provide you with the best possible solution for managing your policies and procedures. If you think this sunset plan will be a problem for your organization, please let us know. As always, your feedback is very welcome.
