Internet Explorer 6 Sunset Plans

Internet Explorer Version 6 Sunset

In order to provide the best possible experience for PolicyStat users, PolicyStat periodically analyzes the type of browsers that our customers use. After a recent analysis, it has become clear that only a tiny fraction of our users are on Internet Explorer 6. With that in mind, we developed a plan to slowly phase out IE6 support in order to dedicate more time and energy towards improving PolicyStat for the vast majority of our users who use more modern web browsers, smart phones (iPhone, Android, etc.) and tablets (iPads, Kindle Fires, etc.).

What this means to you

  • Effective August 1st, 2012, pages used exclusively by site administrators will no longer officially support IE6.
  • Effective September 1st, 2012, only pages that are used by Guest users (searching for, viewing, and printing documents) will support IE6.
  • Effective January 1, 2013, official IE6 support will be dropped completely.

If you are a current customer that uses IE6, we will be contacting you individually to discuss the implications of this change. The large majority of our customers don’t use IE6, and won’t be impacted by this change. In fact, this sets the stage for a variety of PolicyStat improvements for the rest of our customers.

If you have any questions about this decisions, please reach out to your Account Manager or to our support team. We’re always very grateful for your feedback.

Note: Our list of currently-supported browsers is available on our support website.

Details: Why make this change?

In the United States, approximately 0.8% of web requests use IE6 according to Microsoft. IE6 was released in 2003 and has been officially unsupported by Microsoft for several years now. In addition, only five current PolicyStat customers use IE6 more than 10% of the time.

By refocusing our efforts on supporting newer technology, PolicyStat will be able to deliver more improvements on a faster schedule by utilizing features available in modern browsers. We think this decision will improve PolicyStat for everyone.

Our goal is to provide you with the best possible solution for managing your policies and procedures. As always, your feedback is very welcome.
