The Table of Contents feature can help users navigate to the content they need quickly and easily.
Table of Contents (01:13)
While editing a policy within PolicyStat, the default text box size is a Paragraph (1), but text boxes can also be modified to include Header formatting via the Formatting drop-down list (2).
Selecting a heading option (Heading, Subheading, Section Heading, Section Subheading) from the Formatting drop-down list will modify the appearance of the text and will also populate the heading title within Table of Contents.
NOTE: These formatting options replace the Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, and Heading 4, but retain the same size.
Table of Contents Feature
Clicking a particular heading within the Table of Contents will jump the user to the heading location within the policy, whether in the Edit, Draft, Pending, Active, Old, or Retired views.
The Table of Contents for a policy floats on the left side of the policy. If the browser window screen resizes smaller than 1200 pixels wide, the Table of Contents collapses into a smaller tab to ensure a full view of the content.
To re-open the table of contents again, click the tab and a slide out view of the menu will appear. To close it, click the X in the top corner, or re-click the tab.
Heading Deep Links
This feature is in addition to the Heading Deep Links feature, wherein a link directly to a heading is copied to the computer's clipboard, and can then be shared with other users. When the link is clicked, the user will be taken directly to not only the policy but directly to the heading in question. For more on this feature, see this article.
Another feature included with the Table of Contents feature is Numbered Headings. Numbered headings use text boxes with Heading formatting to serve as major list items. This provides several benefits including:
- Visual distinction of list items with heading/subheadings to allow users to more quickly identify relevant content
- Heading deep links can send users to the right content location in quickly
- A Table of Contents/Outline along the left of the material to provide quick navigation
- Greater flexibility to move and adjust list content without breaking list structure.
